Editorial policy
How we research, update and correct
Every article on ChargeCostLab is researched and assembled by the ChargeCostLab Editorial Team from published primary sources, and every article lists those sources at the end. This page sets out the rules we hold ourselves to.
How we choose sources
- Primary first. Regulators, statistics offices and government agencies (for example the US EIA, Eurostat, the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin, Ofgem, gov.uk, the IRS and the DOE), the operators' own published tariffs and the manufacturers' own specifications.
- Independent data next. Established trackers and fleet datasets, named in the article, when no primary source publishes the figure.
- Every figure is attributable. A number appears only with a source in the article's numbered source list. Where we could not confirm something, the article says so rather than guessing.
- Our own arithmetic is labelled. Results we calculate from those inputs are marked as our calculation, with the inputs and assumptions stated.
How we keep numbers current
- Fuel and household electricity prices for the US, the UK and the EU are refreshed every week from the official datasets, and each carries its “as of” date. A value that moves outside a plausible range is held back until it has been checked against the source.
- Figures no dataset covers — network tariffs, subscriptions, incentives, deadlines — are re-checked against the provider's own page on a regular schedule and dated when checked.
- Every article shows the date it was last updated. Offers and programmes with an end date are flagged when that date passes.
Independence
We take no payment from carmakers, charging networks, charger manufacturers, dealers, insurers or energy suppliers for coverage, inclusion or ranking, and we publish no sponsored articles. Any commercial relationship is described on our affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
If a number is wrong, out of date or does not add up, write to [email protected] with the page and what you found. We check it against the source, correct the article and update its date. Material corrections are noted in the article.
