Tesla Model 3 Charging Time (2026)
How long it really takes to charge a Tesla Model 3 — DC fast charging and home AC.
Updated 24 June 2026 · figures current to Q2 2026
Charging time by level
| Charger | Range | Time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home AC wallbox (11 kW) | 0 → 100% | 5.5 h | full battery, typical overnight charge |
| DC fast charger (up to 175 kW) | 10 → 80% | 24 min | the published road-trip benchmark |

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to charge a Tesla Model 3 at a DC fast charger?
10% to 80% takes 24 minutes on a charger delivering up to 175 kW — the average rate across that window works out to roughly 105 kW, since charging speed is highest early on and slows as the battery approaches 80%.
How long does it take to charge a Tesla Model 3 at home?
On a 11 kW home AC wallbox, a full 0→100% charge of the 60 kWh usable battery takes about 5.5 hours — plug in overnight and it's ready by morning.
What's the peak charging rate of the Tesla Model 3?
175 kW on DC fast charging via CCS2. That peak is only sustained for part of the session — the 10-80% average of ~105 kW is the more realistic figure for planning a stop.
Why is 10-80% the standard way to measure EV charging time, not 0-100%?
Charging slows sharply above ~80% state of charge to protect the battery, so the last 20% can take as long as the first 80% on a DC fast charger. Manufacturers and testers publish 10-80% because it reflects the realistic, efficient part of a road-trip stop; ChargeCostLab does not publish a 0-100% DC time for the Model 3 because no sourced figure for the taper exists in our dataset.

Methodology: DC fast 10-80% time and peak kW are transcribed from the manufacturer/tested spec sheet. Home AC time = usable battery ÷ onboard AC charger power. Average DC rate = 70% of the usable battery (the 10-80% window) ÷ the published 10-80% time. Educational — not a guarantee of real-world charging speed, which varies with battery temperature, state of charge and charger condition.
